So, the world has ended. The continents are slag and the oceans boil, and the small patches of humanity that have survived are barely scraping by. But in the burning remains of what used to be London, four friends have devised a cunning plan to make the most of the situation. The ever-cheery optimist Janice (Suranne Jones), the darkly sardonic Robert (Matt Smith), the hyperactive and super-intelligent Dean (Martin Freeman) and the alluring but dim Mina (Emma Watson) decide that they’re going to make a movie. And it’ll be the best movie ever made in the history of planet Earth- a movie that will inspire the remnants of the human race to rise up out of the ashes and begin anew, better than ever before. But to achieve this lofty goal, they’ve got to travel up and down the ruins of England to get actors, equipment, and inspiration. Along the way, this mismatched group finds a lot more than they bargained for: love, friendship and hardship alike, and a whole lot of laughs.

Across the world, people are beginning to hear things. Words, sounds, music, thoughts- but nobody knows where it’s coming from. Dr. Mara Sonorus (Alex Kingston), a specialist in telepathy and ESP, races to find the source of the “mind plague” as the world plunges into chaos: she fears that her experiments may have started it all. The Frequency, as it begins to be called, affects only the select few. This includes Adam Dorian (Matt Smith) and Sandra Warden (Carey Mulligan), students under Dr. Sonorus at university. After learning that both of them were able to tune in to the Frequency, Dr. Sonorus enlists their help in cataloging and decoding exactly what the world was hearing. But more questions are asked than answered once they begin to translate the signals. Who is the mysterious Sam (Caleb Landry Jones) mentioned over and over? Why does a female voice seem to be counting down from 400, one number an hour without fail? And what happens when she reaches one? Sandra, Adam, and Dr. Sonorus race against the clock to find Sam and save the world from something they don’t want to believe could exist.
